The need for improved community facilities
were noted during consultation with the people of Rosehearty.
At that point the Education Committee hosted a series of public
meetings on building the new Rosehearty Primary School. This was to
include a large hall, freely available to the various organisations
in the village.
Many thought that Fordyce Street Hall would be redundant. Time has,
perhaps, proved otherwise.
The hall committee, under the chairmanship of the late Peter Duthie,
produced a professional design and
feasibility study, complete with costing & business plan, for the
refurbishments of the hall.
Unfortunately due to his illness the project lost direction and
there has been no-one else to take this project forward.
However a new committee is to take a fresh look at the situation to
establish if the position regarding
Aberdeenshire Council remains the same or some compromise could be
met.
It seems the hall (after essential repairs) is usable and any
refurbishment could be an on going project over
a long period of time.
In the meantime talks are on going with
Aberdeenshire Council with a view to the
community taking over the hall after agreement has been reached.
Ultimately the decision on any scheme
for the hall will be up to the people of Rosehearty.
HELP URGENTLY NEEDED
The committee that has started these negotiations regarding the
hall is only
in place for a period of 6 months. It is hoped that other members of
the community could join in this project
and bring it forward until completion of the hall has been achieved.
The present committee members are
involved in other things and therefore unable to give their full
commitment to this much needed project.
